Being part of a crowd
Being part of a crowd
Unforbidden pleasure no.98
Unforbidden pleasures are the ordinary pleasures we experience in life, they are immediate, evoke joy and triggered by perceiving sound, texture, color and the environment around us. On a daily basis we tend to overlook the pleasure we find in simple actions, in being with others and in moments and nuances that often happen spontaneously. Unforbidden Pleasures is a living performative hand book on allowing pleasure. By creating conditions and situations that trigger pleasurable experiences, performance artist Eilit Marom wishes to reflect on the inner authorities that govern our desire.
Being part of a crowd is a participatory performance led by opera singer Willemijn van Gent, she guides the public in reciting a song that tells a collective story of migration, being a traveller collecting memories. A crowd is a construct in which individual control slackens and the collective effervescence highthens. It affords anonymity and unity where people yield into synchronization.
